Directions to Our House
We live at 5xx Haight Street between Fillmore and Steiner. The neighborhood is known as the Lower Haight. It is approximately 10 blocks below the famed Haight/Ashbury. It's an incredibly central location within San Francisco: walking distance to the Castro, a short bus ride to Japantown and the chic Upper Fillmore, a short subway ride to Downtown, and a short hop to the freeway, gateway to the rest of the Bay Area. From East Bay (via I-80) or South Bay (via US-101 / I-80): Take the "Mission and Fell" exits, going past the Mission off-ramp, and continuing to the Fell Street exit (which coincidentally, is where the freeway ends); the exit is the red line on the map. Drive up Fell Street until you crest the hill, and turn left onto Steiner Street. Two blocks and turn left on Haight. Park. Please note that the above directions include only two turns once you get off the freeway. It really is that easy (the hard part is that last word, "park"). Also, the reason we give Steiner as the street to turn onto is that it is very clearly the top of the hill on Fell Street, so you have an obvious visual cue -- when you crest the hill, turn damn it! Custom directions and maps, courtesy of Yahoo! Maps. From the N-Judah: Get off at the Church Street stop, and walk three blocks North on Fillmore. Turn left onto Haight Street, and walk half a block. From other Muni lines (F, J, K, L, M): Get off at the Church Street stop, and walk up Church Street to Duboce Street, jog left 30 yards, and continue three blocks North on Fillmore. Turn left onto Haight Street, and walk half a block. From BART: Get off at one of the Downtown stops (Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell). Exit the BART area and cross the station to the Muni area. Take one of the Outbound trains, and follow the appropriate instructions above. |
