Wedding Photo Album | Page 5

Our wedding photographers, Gary and Pierre Silva, do not normally do wedding photography. More like, uh, glamor photography. Anyway, we were thrilled to have them take our wedding photos. We only wish our cheap and old scanner did a better job scanning the prints (we'll have PhotoCD versions in the near future).

The photos on this page are of the reception.

The Reception The Reception

Our reception was a traditional Fourth of July picnic. Everyone switched to casual clothing, even the bride and groom. Here's the toast to the couple's health and happiness.

The Bouquet Toss The Bouquet Toss

Rochelle's nieces all really wanted to catch the bouquet. All other competitors were frightened off by their fierceness, which you can see on their faces as they all reach for the prize.

Tug-o-War Preparation Tug-o-War Preparation

Bride's and Groom's sides prepare for the traditional wedding tug-o-war between the two wedding parties. The bride's side has helped themselves to the downslope side, and a little extra rope...

The Bride's Side Loses The Bride's Side Loses

With the help of an overlaid line paralleling the cake, we can see that in the first moments of the tug-o-war, the bride's side is pulled over the line. By a toe or so. Notice that the bride skillfully avoids putting her foot in the cake (the importance of this will be seen in a moment).

The Groom's Side Loses The Groom's Side Loses

The groom's side, not realizing that they have technically won, continue tugging, as does the bride's side. In the full contest, the bride's side emerges victorious (but remember, they had the downslope side, and less booze). At least one member of the groom's side grazes the cake. This is also important.

The Cake Fight The Cake Fight

Ostensibly remedying the fact that the groom's side didn't step in the cake as the losing side was supposed to, the bride starts a cake fight. Partly into it, the bride gets her just desserts, courtesy of her own brother.

Smooch with Cake Smooch with Cake

The bride and groom kiss at the end of the cake fight. Notice that the groom felt the need to keep a good grip on the bride's wrist. She was holding a final fistfull of cake...which ended up smeared on the groom's chest!
